Representatives and supporters of TDA from Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Greece, Sweden, the
Netherlands, France, and Germany celebrated the 20th anniversary of the organization in Frankfurt,
Germany, on the 7th and 8th of August, 2009.
On the occasion, TDA’s Executive Director Ambassador Tewolde Gebru and TDA’s Board chairperson
Dr. Wolday Ameha addressed the audience on the accomplishments of the association’s activities
during the last 20 years and its future development plans. Both Ambassador Tewolde and Dr. Wolday
appreciated the involvement and active participation of the members and supporters of Tigray
Development Association in Europe.
The next day, on August 8, 2009, mayor of Mekelle city His Excellency Mr. Fisseha Zerihun delved into
the political, economic and social developments of Tigray in context of the developments in Ethiopia.
The dramatic change in Areas of infrastructure, electric power, road construction, telecommunication,
education and healthcare was appreciated by the audience.

TDA’s 20th Anniversary Was Colorfully Celebrated in
Frankfurt
Being the 20th Anniversary of TDA, this year’s
festival was full of activities and the following
were some of them:
•        Exhibition of TDA´s 20 year
accomplishments;
•        Auction of an artifact of  the Martyrs’
monument
•        Telethon fundraising matching fund for
GTZ and
•         Europe´s 2009 Miss Tigray contest
The festival was graced with famous artists of
circus Tigray Band membersTesfay
Gebreyohannes, Tirhas Tareke (Kobely) and
Yemane Haile (wedi Afro). Artist Daniel from
Sweden was also in attendance and
entertained the audience.
Finally, the participants endorsed and
appreciated the role TDA played in Tigray in the
last 20 years, and vowed to:
1.        vigorously engage themselves in the
development of Tigray;
2.        renew their commitments to work with
the Tigray administration and the people  of
Tigray towards the eradication of poverty;
3.                fully support TDA in its endeavors to improve the lives of the Tigray people by building schools, clinics and water supplies;
4.        use all media outlets to advance the mission of TDA; and
5.        hold next year’s Tigray Festival in London, United Kingdom, with great enthusiasm and a lot of activities.
The festival was finalized by awarding certificates to honored members and supporters of TDA from all parts of Europe. Mr. Solomon
Assefa, TDA international Board member and the festival’s organizing committee coordinator, thanked the audience and the guest
speakers on behalf of TDA’s Europe Chapter.
